The
Antananarivo branch built a shelter for volunteer
crews in 2002. Crews of full-time doctors (10 in all) regularly
visit and follow 12.000 children. Devastating hurricanes as well
as epidemics such as cholera and endemic malaria periodically
afflict the island.

Madagascar (15 million inhabitants) 44 % of the population are under 15 years
old. Life expectation is about 55, and 85 % of the population
lives under the level of poverty. The country is the twelfth poorest
country in the world (yearly income of 268 Euros per person !).
The country suffered 25 years of communist regime. It is only
now starting to awaken after the major political turmoil, which
lasted during most of 2002.
Year
after year,
FRAMADON welcomes new benefactors and good will.
In 2001 Elodie GOSSUIN, winner of Miss France and Miss EUROPE
contests, supported the association. As a nurse trainee, she visited
children and distributed medicine and food. She will never forget
these children “whose primary occupation is surviving”.
